About
I am an IBM Distinguished Engineer and Chief Virtualization Architect for IBM’s Open Systems Group. I have designed or developed technologies used every day by millions of people including network operating systems, internet protocols, systems management, security, and virtualization. I have many patents, have authored key technology standards, have authored books, and worked on commercially successful products for companies including Novell, Intel, IBM, and a couple of start-ups. Today I focus on Linux, and Virtualization technology, new hardware designs and processor features, and the intersection of system software and hardware. I led IBM’s entry into open-source hypervisor development with the Xen hypervisor, and I now direct IBM’s Open Source Virtualization development efforts. I graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in Philosophy.
